The Apple of His Eye
Devotion by Charla Bauman
The idiom "apple of his eye" comes from the Bible, it is in 4 verses, Deuteronomy 32:10, Psalm 17:8, Proverbs 17:2, and Zechariah 2:8, all of which are in the Old Testament.
It refers to something or someone that is very dear to you.
It might be said of a father regarding his little girl that “she is the apple of his eye.”
Well, did you know that You are the apple of your Father’s eye? Even if you do not know or have an earthly father, your Heavenly Father watches over you with tender care.
Have you had a great day? Your Father rejoices with you. Have you had heartache and pain? Your Father wants to comfort you.
Has someone injured you with unfair and maybe even evil intent? Your Father is your best champion.
That which we make the apple of our eye, can also have the greatest propensity to hurt us. That is true for our Heavenly Father as well.
He took great risk in making us the apple of his eye, for we have the greatest propensity of hurting Him by rejecting him, or maybe just by ignoring Him.
So, the next time you bite into an apple, remember that your Heavenly Father is just waiting to enjoy a little visit with you, the apple of His eye!
Psalm 17:8
“Keep
me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow
of thy wings,”
