About Us

"Home Comfort Country Living" is a business designed to help encourage you in your  farm-life in Montana. The name, Home Comfort, comes from the name of my wood cookstove, pictured to the left. I've had it since I was 20 and it is what I started canning on as a young mother.

I was motivated to start offering classes on Home Canning and Food Preservation by my daughter, Jennifer. Although she grew up helping me with the garden, as an adult, she wanted some hands on help to get her started on her  own home-canning endeavors. I thought if she was interested in it, there must be others who needed a "mother's" touch, so... here I am.

Even if you live in town you can still have a taste of the farm life. I am dedicated to teaching and training women in their efforts to provide for their families through gardening and preserving food the old fashioned way, by sharing life's lessons and life skills that have been lost in the hub-bub of modern living and by developing relationships. I believe that mentoring is a crucial element missing in society today due to the fragmentation of famlies, and in some small way, I hope to fill that gap for some of you.

WHO AM I ?
My name is Charla Bauman. I am a daughter, a sister, a wife of 30 plus years, a mother,  a grandmother, and a friend. I am a singer/guitarist/songwriter, a teacher, writer, and a storyteller. I am a gardener, homemaker, horse enthusiast, crick wader, star gazer, chicken lover, Border Collie owner, and I am a spiritual  believer in Jesus Christ.(If you have a spiritual inclination, you might check out the Garden of Life page.)

I am a fifth generation Montanan, and have stored up years of treasures from my mother, grandmothers, aunts, and older sisters (I'm the sixth of seven girls and was named after my dad, Charlie.)

I offer classes on many farm life ventures and adventures and will post farm life tips and tricks, information, stories, poems and some songs on this  website. I am also a Master Gardener, registered with the Montana State University Extension Service and have taken their "Living on the Land" Trainers seminar.
